Trippi’s daughter nominated for USA ECLIPSE AWARDS - Jan 2011
As stallion managers we are all too well aware that whilst stallions provide the quantity, the quality comes from the distaff side of most pedigrees. Important mares labelled Reine de Course, Blue Hens, Double Copy mares, Matriarchs or whatever pedigree experts like to call their particular brand of favoured broodmare would all like to add racing class to the formula of their success at stud. Females in racing have grabbed headlines internationally of late and SA recently joined this growing trend.
Trippi is hot property in USA. Breeders that have his first progeny on offer at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale in two weeks time will be delighted to know that not only does this important young stallion have filly R Heat Lightning as the favourite to win an Eclipse award but also accounts for the 2nd leading 3yo colt of his generation in the USA. Gourmet Dinner is listed in last weekend TDN, with earnings of $869 660, as second leading earner of his generation there. That edition of TDN also reports another important winner for Trippi at Gulfstream Park; Travelin Man recorded an impressive 7 ¼ victory over 6 furlongs, clocking an impressive 1:09. Extract from the TDN follows:-
“TRAVELIN MAN (c, 3, Trippi--West Side Dancer, by Gone West) showed upbeat drills at Palm Meadows in preparation for this first go, and was a 5-2 after-the fact overlay here. The homebred pressed a pace of:22.00 and :44.61 set by even-money Ballyclough (Speightstown), took over around the quarter pole, and drew off for an impressive 7 1/4-length score.”
