DEBUT WINNER FOR WHAT A WINTER

6 February 2024

Drakenstein Stud’s prominent stallion What A Winter looks to have come up with yet another smart galloper in the form of regally bred two-year-old Symphony In White.

The latter made the perfect start to her racing career when she made a winning debut at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday afternoon.
Trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, Symphony In White raced up with the pace in Tuesday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Welcomes You Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1200m).

When asked the question by Aldo Domeyer, the two-year-old quickened up smartly and kicked away to beat another What A Winter filly, Dark Winter, by a length and a quarter.

Both Symphony In White and Dark Winter are bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud.

Out of dual G1 winner Snowdance, Symphony In White is a half-sister to this season’s G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas winner Snow Pilot -safe to say she is bred to be anything!

Her four-time G1 winning sire What A Winter is no stranger to siring high-class fillies, with the multiple Equus Champion also responsible for such classy fillies as dual G1 Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold and fellow graded stakes winners Magical Wonderland, Winter Cloud, Distant Winter, Humdinger.

The aforementioned fillies aside, What A Winter fillies have won the last three runnings of the G2 Camellia Stakes with the likes of Celestial Love (2021), Winter Smoke (2022), and Cold Fact (2023) all victorious in the Camellia Stakes.

What A Winter, who had yearlings make up to R750 000 at the 2024 Cape Racing Premier Yearling Sale Powered By Tattersalls, has a single lot on offer at the upcoming Cape Yearling Sale.
